About Pendleton Christian School

Pendleton Christian School is a small Seventh-day Adventist Christian school in Pendleton, Oregon, serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Strong industrial arts and agriculture programs help our students learn to live more self-sufficient lives. Our motto is “Educating for Eternity”: we want our students to be ready for a life spent with Jesus.

The Pendleton Christian School family exists to show children Jesus, nurture their love for Him and others, teach them to think, and empower them to serve.

Pendleton Christian School focuses on building Christ-centered relationships, utilizing solid Biblical principles embedded in a quality educational program, and instilling in our students a thirst for more knowledge. Following Christ’s example, our students will be equipped to serve God with relevant life skills, leadership abilities, and a desire to serve others, both here on earth and through eternity.

At Pendleton Christian School, we believe children are special. They are the product of Creation and have a God-given potential for growth and development. We believe all are the property of God, and we place a high value on the worth of each individual.

We believe that education “prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for a higher joy of wider service in the world to come.” (Education, Ellen G. White, p. 13)

Our students learn together in a multigrade classroom while receiving instruction at their own grade level. Learning happens through teacher-led small groups, grade-level assignments, whole-class lessons, hands-on projects, partner and independent work, and extra support or enrichment when a child needs it. Older students have leadership opportunities, and the teacher remains responsible for all instruction.

We use the Pathways curriculum alongside the North American Division Adventist curriculum. Beginning-of-year assessments, regular checks for understanding, assignments and projects, teacher observation, progress reports and report cards, and family conferences keep parents informed. When a student needs more support or a greater challenge, families are included in planning the next steps.

Children learn best when they feel secure, respected, and valued. Our classroom is a place where every child is treated with dignity, expectations are clear and consistent, questions are encouraged, mistakes are part of learning, differences are respected, and kindness and responsibility are practiced.

Alongside reading, writing, math, science, and Bible, students learn through industrial arts, agriculture, home economics, STEM, outdoor learning, service, and practical life experiences. Guided by Luke 2:52, we help each child grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and others.

Our active Home and School Association finds ways to help parents be involved in school activities. It sponsors two big events each year: the Fall Festival, a large community event held in October, and the Chili and Salsa Cook-off with Dessert Auction (February 6, 2027 this school year). Pendleton Christian School, formerly Harris Junior Academy, has served Pendleton families since 1940 and moved into its current location on SW Hailey Avenue in the early 1970s. We are a fully accredited Seventh-day Adventist school. From the beginning, the mission of the school has been to prepare students for life on this earth and for eternity with Jesus, and the values this school was built on still remain today.
